Library Mission Statement

The mission of our middle school library is to be a welcoming, inspiring space where every student can grow as a learner, reader, and individual.

Our library is more than just a collection of books - it is a hub for learning, mentorship, and personal development.

We are committed to:

  • Promoting a Love of Reading: Encouraging students to explore new worlds, ideas, and perspectives through books.
  • Being Mentors and Role Models: Guiding students to make positive choices, develop good habits, and cultivate a growth mindset.
  • Supporting Struggling Students: Offering a safe space for guidance, understanding, and resources to help students overcome challenges both academically and personally.
  • Fostering Lifelong Learning: Inspiring curiosity and critical thinking skills that extend beyond the classroom.
  • Building a Positive Community: Creating an inclusive environment where all students feel valued, respected, and empowered.

Our ultimate goal is to help every student discover their potential, both as learners and as compassionate individuals, while nurturing a lifelong connection to reading and personal growth.

Million Word Challenge!
The Million Word Challenge is open to all HMS students. The goal is to read a minimum of 1 million words during the school year. Each quarter, students are awarded a small party in the library with snacks and activities. You must meet the quarterly word counts to qualify for an invite to the parties.
Million Word Challenge readers also can earn Amazon gift cards, a certificate, a personalized poster, and recognition at an end-of-the-year banquet. The top reader in the school earns a Kindle Fire tablet. A drawing is held for a second tablet. All qualified millions word readers are entered into the drawing.
Contact Mrs. Siebert to sign up and get your reading logs!

The "Bring on the Books" program was created by Yavapai County School Librarian Suzie Roth. After visiting more than 30 schools in Yavapai County and seeing outdated and worn collections of books, she knew she had to do something to change that. It's easy to donate! Just select a school and order a book. To choose a school, view book wishlists, or just find out more about this program, click on the Bring on the Books button.
